The formation of necrotic lesions is a reaction of the plant towards virus infection. When infected with the wild-type all necrotic lesions on one leaf are of about the same size. (a). After treatment of the virus with a mutagen a number of mutants arise. Their distribution capacity in the leaf tissue often is reduced, The necrotic lesions differ therefore in size, in general they are much smaller than wild-type induced lesions (b). (H.
